Judith Okech, RN

Founder and CEO

As a Registered Nurse and Midwife, Mrs. Judith Okech has more than 30 years of experience in both clinical nursing, and disaster-relief project management, in several African countries including Sudan and her native country, Kenya. From this experience, Judith has witnessed the devastating effects that poverty, a lack of education, and limited access to proper healthcare, has on women and children. She has previously worked with Tear-fund, Oxfam, and the United Nations. Mrs.Okech received her education and training in the USA, United Kingdom and Kenya. She serves as the chief strategist, to spearhead project initiations, and create awareness of the organization’s public health initiatives at local hospitals, schools and national and international forums.


Irene Okech, PhD, MBA.

Founder and Director of Healthcare Policy and Finance

Dr. Irene Okech holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of South Carolina, Arnold School of public health, and an MBA in Healthcare Management Policy. Her research interests are in Pediatric health outcomes, Maternal and child health, and global health policies. She serves as the Policy liaison to ensure that national and global healthcare and accounting policies in Imbako’s countries of operation are adhered to. She also leads in the strategic development of policy initiatives in public health. A young and upcoming leader, she is a spokesperson for the disparities faced by women and children in rural Africa.


Eva Muthamia, MD

Director of Medical Services

Dr. Eva Muthamia is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, school of Medicine. Eva has a passion for preventative healthcare and as a physician, Dr. Muthamia works with Mrs. Okech, and the community health workers , to implement the proposed maternal and child birth programs, assist in recruiting and training of midwives, and oversee the healthcare research projects. She also leads the team on direct projects towards promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness.


Rachel Nyakeri, RN

Director of Public Health and Environmental Health

Rachel Nyakeri, a Registered Public Health Nurse has over 30 years of experience in Public Health Services. She has worked in several districts at various senior cadre healthcare levels in Kenya. She is currently actively involved in community environmental health promotions, apiculture and tree planting initiatives in Rural Kenya. Rachel has grown and conserved numerous tree species and has a goal to reach a cleaner, healthier and greener community. Her efforts towards greener communities have been recognized on numerous occasions.


Joseph P. Gweyi-Onyango, PhD

Director of Agriculture and Environmental Services

Dr. Gweyi-Onyango is an Agricultural scientist, whose research focus is on plant mineral stresses, particularly Phosphorous and Aluminum, in humid and sub-humid agro ecologies .His role is to identify local resources as alternatives to supplementing conventional fertilizers, and to improve food security. Dr. Gweyi-Onyango has research experience spanning over fourteen years; mainly through collaborations. He has worked with UNHCR and CARE in Hagadera camp in North Eastern Province, Kenya and with the Ministry of Agriculture, in Kenya in various capacities, including heading the Agro-forestry and National Soil fertility department. He is currently a Lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Department of Biological Sciences. He is affiliated with the Soil Science Society of East Africa (SSSEA); Horticultural Society of Kenya (HAK).and sits on Kenya’s committee on Convention on Biodiversity. Gweyi participates in community sensitization, and mobilization, and is a strong advocate for adoption of new technologies in Trans-Nzoia and neighboring West Pokot Districts in Rural Kenya. He holds a PhD in Agricultural science and an MSc. In Agronomy from Germany.


Gilbert Chepkwony

Administration & Project Manager - Kenya

Gilbert Chepkwony serves as the Administration and project manager in Imbako’s Kenya office. A gentleman of purpose, Mr. Chepkwony co-ordinates the planning and implementation of Imbako activites, documents project progress, and prepares &presents timely reports on field activities. He holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from Eldoret Polytechnic. From 2008-2009 Mr. Chepkwony worked at Olorropil Secondary School as a Physics and Mathematics instructor, and previously worked on quality analysis at the Momul tea factory. He attended and obtained his high school certificate (KCSE) from Lodwar High School.
