Happy Earth Day!

One of Kenya’s Chief environmental Concerns is Deforestation. At present, less than one quarter of the land remains forested, and an estimated 19 square miles are lost to deforestation annually. Imbako promotes tree planting activities in neighboring schools, churches, buildings and homes. The trees not only reduce soil erosion, but also concurrently serve towards building a greener community, improve existing local rain patterns and support local apiculture and agriculture...Happy Earth Day!

Creating Awareness on Disparities in Education and Healthcare Facing the Girl-Child

The Girl Child in Developing Nations still faces disparities in education, healthcare, sometimes..Choice. Creating awareness of the issue is one step towards addressing it. On March 12, 2011 Imbako Public Health,represented by  Dr.Irene Okech,  presented to the NBGSA on “The plight of the Girl Child in Developing Nations”. Issues facing the girl child in developing nations, and current and potential solutions were discussed. Also discussed were the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG), with Special Emphasis on MDG 3:- ‘Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women’. Then the issue of cost came up...Is it ultimately all about money? Can you put a price tag on Gender Equality? Based on UNIFEM [United Nations Development Fund for Women], we see that ...” The price tag for Action may seem high, but the cost of inaction is far higher.”

So….graduate school is challenging; the workload is heavy, assignments are not easy, and so when it comes to course projects we may end up opting for the simplest ones; those that would not stretch us any further from our already hectic schedule. We may end up taking on a project simply to get a passing grade or to attain the needed credit hours …But, working with the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) MBA students at Georgia State University, one can see that they are different; these hardworking students have chosen to go above and beyond and have devoted their time and resources towards a project that has stretched them further …they chose to work on an initiative that would have a positive global lifelong impact.

Top 10 recommendations on Communication Strategy presented to Imbako: Masters Students from Georgia State University, enrolled in the Fall 2010, MBA 8015- Strategic Communications, selected Imbako Public Health, among several non-profits, and conducted a communication audit on the organization. Based on the findings, the team provided IMBAKO with a list of top 10 recommendations that would strengthen it’s communication Strategies.
